HCPS are pleased that work has recently restarted at Wheatsheaf Common. We are working in conjunction with Surrey County Council to help reduce local flooding, benefit wildlife by diversifying habitat, and creating better access to the site with a network of improved paths.
The work is intended to prevent flash flooding of nearby properties, which happens when there has been heavy rainfall in a short period of time. Climate change is making this a more frequent occurrence.
The pools that are being constructed to accommodate excess rainfall will be beneficial to wildlife, providing breeding sites for amphibians and many aquatic insects and other invertebrates. The work includes the construction of raised paths and boardwalks, which will make the area accessible all year round.
Ground works will be taking place across Wheatsheaf Common until January 2023 and we apologise for any temporary inconvenience this may cause.
